Mosteiro de Singeverga Licor

The only Portuguese monastic liqueur, the Licor from the Monastery of Singeverga — located in Santo Tirso — is produced by the Benedictine monks, using completely handcrafted methods. In 1935, after many experiments and refinements, one of the monks came up with a recipe for a liqueur, which was given the name of the monastery and the place where it stands: Singeverga. Since then, the “secret formula” is passed from monk to monk. Apart from the rudimentary mills, which today are a little more sophisticated, all the other processes are maintained, from the cultivation on the monastery's own land to the same recipes and techniques applied for decades and the respective aging process. That's why the flavour remains, genuine and incomparable. It is a liquor that requires time, perseverance and meticulous work in its preparation. It undergoes two macerations, with twelve spices and aromatic plants, over a period of about two weeks, until reaching a liqueur with body and volume. After this process, the Singeverga liqueur ages in old oak barrels. Not to be missed!
