Aroma
On the nose the wine displays fine vanilla aromas mixed in with dried fruits, cigar box notes and a touch of butterscotch and molasses. Extremely intense and complex, revealing notes of spicy black pepper and crystalized orange peel encircled by the candour of very sweet caramel and honey.
Taste
The velvety smooth palate is elevated by a surprisingly crisp acidity, giving the wine an attractive freshness despite its age. Immensely long, pervading every sense.
Food pairing
It can be enjoyed on its own, in the comfort of a chaise-longue, at any given time of the day. Perfect to serve as an aperitif or dessert. Butterscotch pudding or Grilled Pineapple with caramel and Port Wine sauce. For contrast harmonization, aged cheeses such as Beemster Extra Old Gouda Cheese.

Founded in 1996, Barão de Vilar is one of the newest Port Wine companies. It's owned by van Zellers, a family with rich history in winemaking, dating back to the 17th century. The company’s institutional name recovers a noble title granted by the Queen of Portugal D. Maria II to Cristiano Nicolau Kopke, the 1st Baron of Vilar, back in 1836, which remains in the family’s rightful possession to this day.
This renowned wine cellar offers a fascinating selection of fine Ports and elegant Douro wines. With dedication to traditional craftsmanship, the grapes are carefully selected and processed to create wines of remarkable complexity and character.
