Quinta de Ventozelo LBV 2014

If our Vintage is a force of nature bottled after two years, for the Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) we wait a little longer. The patience of waiting another 2 years to let this port evolve before being bottled gives it a very distinctive maturity and smoothness. LBV is therefore a different way to conserve and express Ventozelo’s fruit and freshness. 2014 was a cool and clean year, with a wet winter and spring leading to early maturation. We witnessed record rainfall during the month of September, with levels that surpassed the records of the last 80 years, leading to clear differences in quality between plots harvested before and after the rains. This LBV was produced with very ripe and balanced grapes, harvested manually during the month of September, with a very careful selection. After manual harvesting, the grapes were carefully inspected and destemmed. An intense maceration was then carried out in the first 48 hours to extract all the good components from the skins, followed by fermentation in stainless steel vats with temperature control. Fermentation was stopped at a given time by adding wine brandy. Aging for 5 years in stainless steel and in wood.
