Vzniká klasickým postupom: kvasenie sa zastaví vínnym destilátom, čím vínu ostane zvyškový cukor, potom prichádzajú roky v dreve a miešanie jednotlivých vín. Vo fľaši sa už nič nemení, takže na toto portské netreba čakať, hotové je v okamihu, keď ho naplnia.
