Ročník 1997 sa spracoval s čiastočným odstopkovaním, takže časť stopiek zostala pri bobuliach. Mušt potom fermentoval pri riadenej teplote 24 až 28 °C.
Kvasenie zastavil destilát
Akonáhle mušt dosiahol sladkosť, ktorú vinárky chceli, kvasenie sa zastavilo vínnym destilátom, čím vínu ostal zvyškový cukor. Práve preto je toto portské sladké, hoci hrozno pochádza z bežnej červenej zmesi Doura.
Roky v dreve vo Vila Nova de Gaia
Víno potom zrelo v dubovom dreve v skladoch vo Vila Nova de Gaia a do fľaše išlo medzi druhým a tretím rokom, po schválení. Nefiltrované portské časom vytvorí na dne fľaše usadeninu, preto ho pred podávaním opatrne prelejte do karafy.

Since its foundation this wine house has been producing and selling high quality wines from the main demarcated regions: Bairrada, Douro, Dão, Vinho Verde, Beiras and Vinho do Porto. Messias has a lot of first-class port wines on offer. The first Colheita dates from 1947, the first Vintage from 1960. The company is also known for the high quality of its Champagne method sparkling wines and aged brandies.
